Spiritual Practice and Business Success
In the busy and chaotic world we live in today, it is increasingly difficult to maintain the clear, calm mindset necessary for effective and accurate business decisions. Noise, distraction, anxiety and information overload have become the default conditions of modern life — and they are the enemies of good judgment, creativity and sustainable success.
It is my position that certain spiritual practices — including and especially mindfulness meditation — are not optional extras for the serious entrepreneur. They are necessities.
First, We Must Know What We Are
Before we can build anything lasting in the outer world, we must understand what we are in the inner world.
We are Free Agent Consciousness — emerged from the Infinite Free Agent Consciousness, that Source which many call God, the Infinite I AM. Our purpose is to enjoy and produce ever more sublimely beautiful experiences, eternally and abundantly.
We are, therefore, Spirit — and we come from Spirit.
Consider these words as synonyms for Spirit, and notice how alive they are in the world of business:
Consciousness. Care. Energy. Attention. Motivation. Inspiration. Value.
Spirit gives hope and vision for the future. It generates purpose, ideas and innovation. It is the invisible engine of everything that has ever been built, created or achieved by human beings.
The Crisis of Our Era
Our society has largely abandoned a genuine belief in Spirit and replaced it with pure empirical measurement. The prevailing worldview holds that if something cannot be seen, touched, tasted or physically heard, it does not exist and therefore does not matter.
This rejection of Spirit has consequences — and we are living them. It has given rise to the Nihilism and Narcissism of our era. And Nihilism is not merely a philosophical problem. It is an economic one. A worldview with no meaning, no purpose and no future vision ultimately kills markets and commerce. You cannot build anything lasting on emptiness.
How Entrepreneurship Maps on to Spirit
Here is something remarkable — the qualities that define great entrepreneurs are, at their core, spiritual qualities.
The entrepreneur typically begins with a vision — a eureka moment that arrives not from a spreadsheet, but from somewhere beyond the purely physical. Sometimes it comes in a dream. This vision becomes their Why — the thing they care about above almost everything else.
That is the Care factor.
They feel Motivated — and cultivate the discipline of self-motivation through every obstacle and setback.
The idea gives them Energy — and sustains it through years of effort.
They believe they can provide genuine Value to society — that they can solve a real problem, meet a real need, improve a real life.
Every one of these qualities — Care, Motivation, Energy, Value — is a name for Spirit in action.
What Spiritual Practice Gives the Entrepreneur
An entrepreneur must know who they are and what their True Will Mission is in this life. Ancient spiritual systems — Rastafari, Zen, Kemetic tradition, Qabalah and others — can assist powerfully in confirming and clarifying exactly that.
Beyond self-knowledge, the entrepreneur must maintain positivity and resilience over long periods, through overwhelming challenges and losses. That ability is not merely psychological. It is spiritual. It is cultivated through practice.
They must care for people and transform that care into lasting relationships — joined by consistency and integrity, which build trust, which leads to long term business relationships and long term success.
These are not soft skills. They are spiritual disciplines.
Ancient Wisdom, Modern Results
This is not theory. Zen meditation practice is actively used by successful Japanese business leaders to sharpen focus, cultivate equanimity and make better decisions under pressure. The Ethiopian nation, under the spiritual leadership rooted in the tradition of His Imperial Majesty Haile Selassie I, was able to resist and survive colonial attempts in part through the practice of Holy Silence meditation — an inner strength that translated directly into outer resilience and sovereignty.
The connection between spiritual practice and worldly success is ancient, universal and proven.
