We live in an age that has largely abandoned ritual — and we are paying the price.
Not the empty, performative ritual of mere habit or hollow ceremony, but genuine, intentional, living ritual — the ancient human technology of deliberately entering sacred space, invoking the presence of the Most High and feeding the soul with beauty, symbol, sound, breath and focused intention.
Every great spiritual tradition in human history — Rastafari, Kemetic, Zen Buddhist, Kabbalistic, Rosicrucian, Mayan, Yoruba, Sufi, Christian, Hindu and more — has understood something that modern secular culture has largely forgotten. That the human psyche needs ritual the way the body needs food.
At Lion Power Abundant Living, the restoration and personalization of genuine spiritual ritual is one of the most transformative practices we offer.
What Ritual Actually Does
The purpose of ritual is twofold and inseparable. First, it places the psyche into a relaxed and receptive state — shifting the brain from the busy, analytical Beta frequency of ordinary waking consciousness into the deeper, more open Alpha and Theta states where genuine spiritual experience becomes possible. Second, it feeds that receptive state with , chosen influences and associations on a regular basis.
The Core Principles of Effective Spiritual Ritual
Principle 1 — Invoke the Most High First Every ritual should begin with a clear, sincere invocation of the divine presence — whatever name or names most resonate with your personal relationship to the Infinite.
Principle 2 — Entrain the Breath Through Rhythm The breath is the bridge between the physical and the spiritual. In ritual, the breath can be powerfully entrained through the rhythm of chanting, mantra and percussive instruments such as drums, rattles or bells.
Principle 3 — Activate the Sense of Smell
Of all the human senses, smell is the most directly and powerfully connected to the limbic system — the brain's emotional and memory center. Choose an incense whose scent genuinely moves you and use it consistently in your ritual space.
Principle 4 — Honor the Four Elements Where possible, include a representation of the four classical elements — Fire, Water, Air and Earth — in your ritual space.
Fire — A candle flame, representing transformation, illumination and divine light. Water — A small bowl of water, representing purification and flow. Air — The smoke of incense, representing breath, thought and spirit. Earth — A stone, crystal, plant or salt, representing groundedness and stability.
Principle 5 — Use Color Intentionally Color carries vibrational and psychological power. Surround yourself with colors that resonate with the intention of your ritual.
Principle 6 — Include Sacred Movement and Gesture The body is not a vehicle for the spirit — it is an expression of it. Including physical gesture, movement and dance in ritual honors this truth.
Principle 7 — Speak Sacred Words Words carry vibrational power that shapes inner and outer reality. Your ritual should include mantras, sacred poetry, scriptural passages and the divine names most meaningful to you.
Principle 8 — Structure Your Ritual in Three Phases Every effective ritual has a clear beginning, middle and end — the Opening, the Body and the Climax.
Principle 9 — Consistency Above All A simple ritual practiced consistently every day is infinitely more powerful than an elaborate ritual performed occasionally.
A Complete Example — The Cosmic Rastafari Space Blessing
This powerful daily practice is Ras Ber I's own adaptation of the Golden Dawn Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram — reinterpreted through the lens of Cosmic Rastafari spirituality.
Preparation: Choose a stick of incense whose fragrance genuinely moves and elevates you. Stand in the center of your space. Take three slow, deep, conscious breaths.
The Blessing: Light your incense. As the smoke begins to rise, slowly begin spinning to your left and as you spin speak these words clearly: "Infinite Love. Infinite Oneness. Infinite Now."
Move the incense through the air in the pattern of a figure eight in each of the four directions you face as you turn. Place the incense down safely.
The Ascension: Close your eyes. Imagine yourself beginning to rise — up through the ceiling, up through the roof, up into the open sky. Continue rising through space until you arrive at a realm of absolute, boundless, blinding infinite light.
The Four Fold Invocation: Take a deep breath. Raise your right hand toward the sky and bring it slowly down to touch your forehead. Speak: "To Thee, O Most High."
Bring both hands slowly downward toward your feet and speak: "Is the Kingdom."
Turn to face your right. Raise your right arm outward and speak: "The Power."
Turn to face your left. Raise your left arm outward and speak: "And the Glory."
The Great Blessing: Stand with both arms raised wide and speak: "Blessing be to the Almighty I. Iyesus Kristos I. Haile I Selassie I. Jah Rastafari. And all beings — Right now. Forever now. Non stop now."
The Closing: Bring your hands together at your chest and speak softly: "Ley Olam. Forever and ever. Cosmos without end. Amen."
Stand in stillness for at least one full minute. Receive.
